Breast uplift (mastopexy) in Bristol, London & Newport

Your breasts are lifted so that the natural volume that you already have is used to plump up the upper portion of the breast, with the excess skin being removed and a new “internal bra” created using your skin and breast tissue. The nipples are moved up the breast to their correct position and the breast tissue folded in such a way that the breast assumes a more youthful shape. This results in a scar around the nipple, with a vertical scar running down form the nipple to breast crease. Sometimes if there is a lot of skin excess a further scar in the breast crease is needed. Breast uplift surgery can be carried out in Bristol, London or Newport.

Frequently asked questions

How is a breast uplift done?

A breast uplift (or Mastopexy) is performed under general anaesthetic and usually requires an overnight stay in hospital. You will have surgical drains (a tube in each breast to drain any collection of blood) in your breast following the operation but this will be removed the following day before you go home.

What happens after the operation?

After the operation you will need to wear a non underwired support bra for 6 weeks to help support the breast tissue whilst it heals.

You will need to avoid any serious physical activity for the first 2 weeks after a mastopexy and avoid any heavy lifting (which includes small children). After this you can gradually increase your activity and by 6 weeks you can resume all normal activities.

How long does breast uplift surgery take?

The surgery takes about 2 hours to perform.

Is there anything else I should know?

No one has 2 breasts that are the exactly the same on both sides! Although you will not be symmetrical following the procedure breast uplift surgery often has a symmetrizing effect. Any pre-existing asymmetries between your breasts will influence the final outcome of the procedure.

The effects of a breast uplift or mastopexy provide a very pleasing and youthful appearance to the breast, however the surgery does not defy gravity or time. There will be inevitably some stretching of the soft tissues leading to a degree of recurrence of the pre operative shape of the breast (as tissues age). An good analogy is that the surgery turns the hands of the clock back but does not stop them ticking!.
